Updated: The offending sign put up as part of Sian Dawson's election campaign has been removed following an intervention by Babergh's returning officer.
Original article:
Habitual rule-breaker Sian Dawson has been accused of potentially breaking election law by placing her Conservative campaign material in the grounds of a polling station.
Dawson has put up one of her banners at Hadleigh Cricket Club, which is on Hadleigh town council land leased to the club, and also a Babergh polling station.
According to election law, campaign material is not allowed within the perimeters of a polling station.
This means there shouldn't be any campaign posters, banners or other advertising literature:
- in the polling station itself
- on the polling station building
- on the land of the polling station, such as a car park
Dawson's Conservative poster clearly breaks the law and is likely to reported to Suffolk police, the Electoral Commission and Babergh's returning officer if it is still in place tomorrow. (May 4).
Dawson was contacted for comment but failed to respond.
Hadleigh town council was contacted for contact, but the clerk Wendy Brame had her out of office message on.
Hadleigh mayor Gordon McLeod failed to respond.
Projects officer Alicja Barnes, who was the fail-safe contact, also failed to respond.
Controversial Hadleigh North candidate Dawson is currently under investigation by Babergh's monitoring office after failing to comply with sanctions issued after it was proven she had lied in a report to the town council about a fellow councillor.
Liar Dawson refuses to apologise.
Previously she has been involved in a number of inappropriate behaviour at Babergh including:
Made at least one other false and inaccurate monthly district council report to Hadleigh town councillors.
Misleading Hadleigh councillors...
Accused of lying about leader John Ward in a radio interview
Picking her nose and eating the contents at a public meeting captured on video.
Being instrumental in a Babergh cabinet reshuffle which resulted in her losing her place along with all her fellow Conservative group members. Consequently the Tories lost all chair and voice chair positions on all other Babergh committees.
Ordered the removal of charity banners in the town.
Dawson was also forced to resign as a magistrate after it was shown she had abused her position.
