Sian Dawson has lost her place on the Babergh cabinet as part of the fall out from her and other Tories calling for the removal of a journalist from the top table.

Angered by a Nub News columnist Cllr Dawson and other Conservatives demanded the removal of Nub News editor and Independent councillor Derek Davis who refused to reveal columnist Rowland Taylor's Ghost's identity or prevent his right to express an honesty held opinion.

Cllr Dawson was told she would not be part of a new coalition cabinet by Babergh, and the Conservative group leader John Ward, after he agreed to remove Cllr Davis led to all three of the other Independents and the Lib Dem portfolio holder resigning.

Hadleigh North councillor Dawson resented being called out for her various actions during her brief period as cabinet member for half of the Environment portfolio.

These included:

  • Misleading the public and Haleigh town council, which lead to the Babergh leader writing to the then mayor to correct her inaccurate report.
  • Cllr Dawson also demanded charity banners be removed in Hadleigh town centre.
  • *Failed to implement the cabinet decision made in February 2020 to reduce free parking in Sudbury and Hadleigh from three hours to one.
  • Talked down the town.
  • And being caught on camera during a cabinet meeting of picking her nose and eating the contents.

Before being re-elected in 2019 Cllr Dawson, who had left the Conservative group to become an Independent Conservative, had also been forced to resign as a magistrate in London following an investigation into allegations she had twice tried to use her position as a magistrate for personal advantage.
