Hadleigh United Football Club

Club Statement

This statement is regarding the proposed Hadleigh Town Council Layham Road New Pavilion & Artificial  Grass  Pitch

Over the past months and weeks there has been many articles written regarding the above  and the involvement of the Football Club in this project . This statement will hopefully clear up some of the misconceptions in these articles relating to HUFC

In 2017  a Local Football Facility Plan was drawn up by Babergh District Council , Football Association, Sport England , Premier League , this plan highlighted the need for a full size 11v 11  AGP  pitch in Hadleigh .

On the 19th November 2020 Hadleigh Town Council at a full council meeting endorsed this project as the project includes rebuilding the burnt out Layham Road Pavilion .

Please note :- This AGP pitch is to be constructed on Layham Road Sports Ground in Conjunction with constructing a New  Pavilion

As far as we are aware contact was made between HTC & the Football Foundation to explore the FF requirements for this project and what funding was available .

Following on from this HUFC were contacted by HTC  with regards to this project and part of the requirements from the FF  was HTC had to formulate a Business Plan to potential users to see if there was sufficient Clubs & Organizations willing to sign up to this plan

We as a Club discussed this and duly signed up as this AGP would give us the opportunity to " hire "  and "all weather pitch "  for matches but moreover for Training purposes for all our Teams ( both Youth & Adult )  . No one covered in mud training on grass pitches in Winter months for no training at all, Training in Summer months when grass pitches are out of action for maintenance work .

In some of the press articles  that  HUFC will benefit from this once constructed , this has lead some people to assume that HUFC will benefit on a monetary  basis , this is a complete misconception , as like any other user  whether it be private individuals , companies , clubs, schools  we as a Club would have to pay the going rate to hire this pitch , with the only benefit  as mentioned above with regards to training or matches

HUFC  are fully supportive of this project from the reason given above

All documentation relating to this project  can be found on the Hadleigh Town Council  website ( on home page select " search "  type in layham road sports ground , all the agendas are shown look for agenda  dated 22nd March 2021 )

We at HUFC are fully supportive of this project , but at present its in abeyance  due to  Mirco Plastics in the Rubber Crumb infill  & the FF are at present trialling other organic infill as a replacement for the Rubber Crumb

With Regards to Cllr Beggerow

There has been in recent days articles relating to Cllr Beggerow's  involvement  with the decision that have been made both in his capacity as Chair of the Layham Road Sports Ground  Sub -Committee and  council member . He is also the HUFC  treasurer

The decisions made and voted on  both at LSGR meetings  and HTC Full Council meeting by Cllr Beggerow  are his own decisions and not influenced by the HUFC  Committee  as  we have already stated we are very supportive of this project for the reason written earlier in this statement
