With the world and his dog expecting midfielder Edwards to cross in a free kick from the left, the wily old fox spotted the keeper poorly position and successfully struck right-footed inside the near post.

Nick Punter had little to do, but saved when called upon and was relieved to see a Jack Friend effort come back off a post and the follow up fluffed by the City's Arden Hida.

Steve Holder's side played attractive football once again, but failed to make their numerical advantage count in the 10 minute period Ely's Louis Jenkins was sin binned for dissent.

Hadleigh are back at Millfield on Tuesday night when they entertain Mildenhall in the Suffolk Premier Cup.
