Kirkley find happy Holder's Hadleigh too hot to handle
It all came together for Hadleigh as they proved too hot to handle for Kirkley on the earnest day of the year.
The Millfield crowd were treated to a classy, entertaining and effective display leaving manager Steve Holder a happy man who agreed it was probably the Brettsiders' best performance of the season so far.
Ollie Dunlop claimed the first two goals, and also hit a bar, while Tom Warren headed in a goal he deserved after running Kirkley ragged all game.
Carlos Edwards rattled the crossbar forced the keeper Kingsley Barnes into couple of good saves and ran the midfield like the old pro he is.
"We are improving with every game and that was probably as well as we have played so far this season," summed up Holder.
"It could have been even more, we hit the bar, hit a post and the keeper has made some good saves.
"We never really looked like we were going to concede, George Bowman has come in, with a pre-season really, and since he has been back we have not lost. He is leader at the back."
With five wins and a draw over the past six games, Holder is sure the wobble at the start of the season is well and truly over.
"There was never any panic from the start of the season because we were playing really well," said Holder.
"Even in the games we lost we played quite well it was just a case of fine margins, penalties things like that.
"We are on good run and in the next round of the cup so hopefully we can keep the momentum going."
Holder will need to rely on his squad's strength in depth with skipper Jack Baker and defender Aaron Oxpolokpo suspended, and George Bugg away for the trip to Ely City, but he is confident the good run can continue.
"We have good competition for places, which is important," said Holder. "Players know if they are not performing hey will not be playing.
"Ollie Dunlop has come in and scored in both games he has started in after not featuring much early on. He has taken his chance."
It was not just the three goals and clean sheet that impressed the neutral but the stye of play, which Holder hopes will attract even bigger crowds to Millfield.
He added: "It would be good to see more people start coming we play good attractive football and we are winning so come along."
Hadleigh are next at home when they take on Mildenhall in the FA Vase on Tuesday evening, September 19.
