More than 60 students from the Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook showcased dramatic and musical talents in their recent exciting and emotional production of the rock opera 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

From the captivating portrayal of Jesus (Oli B) to the beautifully gentle interpretation of Mary Magdalene (Daisy C) and heart-wrenching perspective of Judas Iscariot (Emi S), the performance took the audience on a journey through the final days of Christ through Judas Iscariot's eyes, who fears Jesus' movement is becoming a dangerous cult.

Following the Last Supper, Judas brings soldiers to Gethsemane to arrest Jesus. Jesus, recognised by Pilate (sensitively played by Sean E) from a dream, faces trial but Pilate refuses to convict him. Sent to Herod (energetically portrayed by Ben G) and then back to Pilate, the crowd demands crucifixion. Despite both Herod's and Pilate's reluctance, Jesus is crucified, fulfilling the tragic destiny.

The creative team turned the Assembly Hall into an amazing theatre space with a tiered stage and seating that hosted over 1,000 attendees across four productions of the musical.

With many audience members describing the show as 'breathtaking', other comments included:

"The show was absolutely brilliant."

"Such passionate acting, strong singing, great band and incredible staging and lighting."

"It was less Jesus Christ Superstar and more Jesus Christ Superstars. To pull that show off in such spectacular style is almost a miracle. You should all be immensely proud; I don't think I've seen a show at a school (and I've seen plenty) that has been that visual and sonically breathtaking."

Brian Martineau, Production Director, said: "I am incredibly proud of our pupils as it was an incredibly challenging score with music at five and seven beats in a bar.

"They coped admirably and gave dynamic performances described as 'breathtaking'."
