The sun shone, the legends of Suffolk radio were out in force and history was made as a new station was successfully launched at precisely midday on Saturday.

Slick, professional and entertaining, Suffolk Sound was introduced officially to the world from their studio at Beach Street in Felixstowe.

The predicted storms, which caused co-founder Rob Dunger another sleepless night, did not arrive and the only wet stuff came as the wind wafted across the water fountain lightly spraying the scores of volunteers, gusts and spectators. and glasses of fizz were downed.

Rob's fellow founder Richie Ross was buzzing around energetically, stood in at the dress rehearsal with star presenter Mark Murphy MBE (nothing being left to chance) until Mike Deacon the deputy mayor made the welcome speech and officially cut the ribbon.

Sharon Coney and her events team organised everyone and everything superbly, and the volunteers were a veritable who's who list of Suffolk presenters, wordsmiths and music experts, as the tunes thumped out..

First up on Sunday morning was gardening expert Chris Wiley, who splits his time between his greenhouses in Harkstead and the world renowned Abbey Gardens, getting to the essence of community horticulture. He was followed my Richie with his own mix of music and chat.

Monday morning and it is the man himself Rob Dunger, who lives not far from Hadleigh, getting the week underway in earnest with his show starting at 7am, with Nub News editor Derek Davis making a cameo appearance asa press reviewer at 7.50am.

Listen for the big names, Steve Foley who has made the short move from Felixstowe Radio, the legend that is Emperor Rosko and other pirate radio, and BBC Suffolk stars like Stephen Foz Foster are on the schedule.

Get yourself tuned in online, ask Alexa for Suffolk Sound or find your own favourite way to download.

As the launch song from Yazz says 'The Only Way is Up'.
