A new sports pavilion for Hadleigh is to receive a £108k boost from Babergh District Council.
The council awarded the funding to village groups and town and parish councils that are delivering projects across the district, as part of its commitment to residents' wellbeing and ensuring communities have access to local facilities.
The two projects being supported in Babergh are:
- Hadleigh Town Council – building of a new Layham Road sports pavilion - £108,491.16.
- Long Melford Parish Council – new play area equipment and resurfacing at Cordell Place play area - £12,942.08.
The money comes from a combination of the councils' community grants, plus section 106 funding – money generated by developments across the districts that can be used for social infrastructure improvements, such as village halls, sports facilities and play areas.
Cllr Deborah Saw, Babergh cabinet member for people and place, said: "I'm pleased that we've been able to provide financial support to these two organisations to help them get their community projects off the ground.
"We want our residents, whatever their age, to be able to access facilities that improve their health and sense of wellbeing."
The new sports pavilion in Hadleigh, to replace the old one destroyed by an arson attack, is estimated to be costing around £900,00 in total, will be paid for from an insurance pay out of around £170k, with the Hadleigh town council applying to the Public Works Loan Board for £120k, which will be paid back by Hadleigh taxpayers, while other grants and funding has yet to be raised.
