Hadleigh United's fireworks display Millfield last night has been described as the 'best ever'.

Chairman, John Chenery who has been organising the event since 1994 as a way to help fundraise for the club and said: "This is our best ever.

"We used to do it ourselves, but as its grown and grown over the years, we decided to go out to professionals and put it on as a professional display. It lasts 17 mins now each year."

Colchester's Dynamic Fireworks did the entire display and they do a helped by club volunteers.

Mr Chenery said: "There's a band of volunteers who were here from nine o'clock this morning till late this evening that I would like to thank.

The popularity this year was one of the club's highest ever as queues reached out to the main road, Mr Chenery said: "This has exceeded our highest number from a few years ago, which was about 1200, tonight there has been an excess of 2,000 people.

"We are lucky that one or two displays haven't gone ahead as Long Melford cancelled theirs.

"This is all good for the club and I'm one very happy chairman.

"I would like to thank all the people of Hadleigh and from the surrounding area's for coming down and supporting the club."
