Friday's Hadleigh Breakfast Briefing

Friday's fun fact

Did you know that pineapples were named after pine cones?

Christopher Columbus first saw pineapples while exploring the island of Guadeloupe in 1493, but the first recorded reference to a fruit of this name wasn't until 1694.

Because of its spiky exterior, a different group of European explorers named it "pineapple" after the equally spiky pine cone. Later, in the 20th century, the pineapple earned its official scientific name, "ananas cosmosus," which literally translates to "excellent tufted fruit."
