Former town council manager Cheryl Tye has died following an accident while she was competing in a cycling time trial.

Ms Tye, aged 52, was killed following a crash on the A11 at Roudham, near Thetford on Sunday morning.

An air ambulance was among emergency services attending but Ms Tye was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are calling for information or dash cam coverage regarding the collision involving a blue Citroen Dispatch van and a bicycle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Norfolk Police quoting incident number 119 of 26/06/2022.

Ms Tye worked for Hadleigh town council between March 2020 when she initially joined as an administrator, became acting town council manager seven moths later and then appointed to the full role in january 2021.

She resigned earlier this year after period of sick leave.

Former Hadleigh mayor Frank Minns, who worked very closely with Cheryl was greatly shocked and upset at the news.

Mr Minns said: "Cheryl was a dynamic and determined Town Council Manager whose efficiency and vigour reflected her service in the Royal Air Force. I admired her greatly and know she could have done great things at HTC.

"Her death is a terrible tragedy, and the only comfort I can find in it is that it happened while she was doing the thing she loved best, competing."

Ms Tye was a member of the Plomesgate cycling club, and raced with them since 2018.

The veteran cyclist was competing in the 50-mile Breckland District championship when the collision occurred.
