A Hadleigh car parking charges protester, who is alleged to have led a convoy to the home of Babergh leader John Ward, is due to appear in court next month.

Ian Grutchfield, of the Old School, Hadleigh, is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Friday, July 23, charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of, or provoke, unlawful violence.

The alleged offence took place on December 30, 2020, when a group of people, angry at plans by Babergh to changes car parking charges, turned up at Mr Ward's house with one allegedly going up the drive and approaching the house.

Mr Ward was out at the time, but his daughter was at home alone.
