I'm not often moved to tears. The last time was when Alfred the 'Great' (debatable) had me by the bölír as I decided to convert to Christianity. But not gonna lie, I shed a tear or two today.

You remember the Hadleigh Bardic Poetry Competition I announced last time? A chance for the people of Hadleigh to show they hadn't forgotten me. To be honest, my expectations were low.

Sorry not been in touch for a while. Bet you've forgotten about me yet again, eh? Guthrum's the name, ruling's the game. Loved Hadleigh so much I was buried there. Not that anyone cares now.

I've been on holiday: a 'staycation' as Squire Derek calls it, to Maldon, Essex. I was gobsmacked to see they have statue of my near-contemporary Beorhtnoth. Can you believe it? He was just an Ealdorman. He wasn't a king, not even royalty. What's all that about?

We are happy to announce that Hadleigh Amateur Dramatic Society is now able to join together once again after this terrible time we have been going though.

And we have decided to put on The Wizard of Oz for our next panto in February 2022 in the half term holidays at Elmsett Village Hall. More information on this later.

Guthrum here. AKA Aethelstan. Danish. King. I came over to the area years ago, loved it. Conquered it. Well, most of it. Call me a migrant worker who put down roots. And the natives, haha.

Anyway, one of my advisors has told me that the folk of Hadleigh are revolting. Yes, they're appalling, I thought, but I love them anyway. But no, apparently they are revolting against something. One of the town's heroes has been, I believe the modern term is, 'dissed'. Rowland Taylor. Not heard of the guy myself but apparently he was well-loved. Personally, I find it's better to be well-feared but … different strokes.

With the spring equinox now behind us, the season of change is in full-throated throttle. There are just so many comings and goings er, coming and going.

The most intense activity recently has been the comings and goings outside the Hadleigh Health Centre and the Mill Pharmacy (other chemists are also available). As the vaccination rollout has sped forward, your ghostly correspondent decided to turn up for his appointment.
