KATHRYN GRANDON – STANDING FOR COUNTY

YOUR INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE

I am your Independent candidate in the Suffolk County Council election. Some of you may have seen me appear at times in the Hadleigh Community News, but you may not know much about me. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I hope you will vote for me on 6th May…

I have lived in Hadleigh for 23 years and served as a Babergh District Councillor for Hadleigh South for the last 10 years.

FAMILY

I have a daughter and son, now in their twenties, who went to St Mary's school, St Mary's Church, Guides and Scouts, as well as other activities. All of the family were at home in Hadleigh during the first lockdown and we enjoyed going on walks in Hadleigh and nearby.

COMMUNITY

Like many people in Hadleigh, I try to contribute to the well-being of the community. When people contact me about a problem, I know that it is really important to that individual and endeavour to find a solution very quickly. I am a founding member of the Hadleigh Steering Group; all the members contribute towards finding ways to improve our town. As a committee member of the fantastic Hadleigh on Show I contributed to making the community day happen – it was a special day for everyone and a day that the town remembers. I also give support to Hadleigh Dementia Action Alliance in its important work.

GETTING THINGS DONE FOR HADLEIGH

I have a reputation as someone who gets things done. If you have had the opportunity to look at my leaflet you will see some examples of how I have personally taken action for our town, in addition to helping many individuals.

I make sensible decisions that support our town – it was the Conservative leadership who introduced the removal of three hours free parking. I was strongly against any one-way system (which came hand-in-hand with barriers) for our High Street last summer.

I was in charge of the Working Group that made the decision to stop the proposed building of executive housing in Cox Park and turning East House in to flats. I had to convince others that what we have now was a good and viable proposal. It was a difficult position to be in at the time, but I believe I have been proved right.

The car park by the Railway Walk is about to have major work to restore it – and that is down to me.

I am currently trying to get a toilet (perhaps a temporary one initially) installed in Pykenham Park for users of the park and skate park.

If you elect me as your County Councillor, I will put the same energy into projects at County level.

INDPENDENT COUNCILLOR

I think it is really important to have Independent Councillors in local politics. I used to be a Conservative Councillor, and am finding that I now have the freedom to vote as I think fit and follow my conscience, rather than follow a party line. For local politics in particular, Independent councillors work best.

WHY VOTE FOR KATHRYN GRANDON

We need to ensure that Hadleigh remains a special place for future generations – so I hope you will vote for me so that I can help to protect the best aspects and develop a thriving town for the future.

So please elect me to:

  • Support Hadleigh at County level
  • Make good decisions for Hadleigh and our County
  • Keep our town and High Street vibrant
  • Protect our green spaces
  • Improve our roads
  • Care for our whole community
  • Speak up for Hadleigh and its residents.

If you feel 'politically orphaned', have lost your trust in the other parties, want a change – or think I can do a good job, please vote for me.

If you have not seen my leaflet, please do contact me for a copy – call: 01473 824489 or [email protected]
