New date set for weed growth mayhem in Hadleigh to be tackled

A new deadline has been set for the out of control weeds around Hadleigh to be dealt with

After a number of complaints to the town council about the weeds in the High Street and the Magdalen Car Park areas, staff contacted the county council and were told the weeds would be dealt with on the July 19.

That date and and went but the county's public realm team has rescheduled the weed growth work in Hadleigh, which is only attended to once yearly, when they are supposed to prune the entire area of Hadleigh.

A Suffolk county council spokesperson told Nub News: "Weed treatment in Hadleigh was scheduled for week commencing 19 July; however, due to delays within the programme, the works will now be completed within the next two weeks.

"The weed treatment operation is weather dependent and can take up to two weeks to take effect.

"Our contractors do not carry out weed treatment if it is wet or windy as rain dilutes the treatment and can make it ineffective, while wind can cause overspray. In such circumstances, this can cause a delay in the programme."

Resident Paul Barton, told Nub News he had become disheartened by the lack of action.

He said: "I'm all for having wild flowers, in fact, I nurture some across the road from us but obviously you still need to have weed management on paths and roads

"They leave the grass as wild flower meadows which is fine but it has to be managed. Otherwise the old clippings are going all over the path and all over the roads.

"Potentially it's going to wash down and fill the drains up which could lead to flooding in wetter conditions"
