Did you know?

The Battle of Hastings was actually fought on this day in 1066. King Harold II of England was defeated by the invading army of William, duke of Normandy, in the Norman Conquest, establishing Normans as rulers of England and that had a knock effect in Suffolk with land being given to French noblemen as a reward.

On the ceremonial gateway to the World War II British military cemetery for the dead of Normandy at Bayeux, one finds the apposite Latin inscription,
