Nub News gets UP CLOSE with Clubbercise instructor Rebecca Hodnett, as she prepares to open classes up in Hadleigh next month.

Clubbercise has been around since 2013, it is a dance fitness class with easy to follow routines using rave glow sticks.

It is often choreographed to club anthems from the 90's and the latest chart hits.

Classes are often taught in a dark room with disco lights and glow sticks to make it feel like you are in a nightclub atmosphere.

All the workouts are designed with both low and high impact movements, meaning it is adaptable to specific fitness levels.

Exercising for a better well being

Rebecca first started this new craze of Clubbercise back in June just for fun. She said: "It wasn't until September that I decided to do a course and become a qualified Clubbercise Instructor myself."

"I started Clubbercise because it was something that bought me and my friends together once a week. It's hard to catch up with friends, when we are all busy and working, so this gave us something to do together.

"During lockdown I took up exercise to help with my mental health and well being and decided I wanted to carry on with this, as the pandemic eased.

"After my first class, I just fell in love with it. I went to work the next day and told all my friends about it and they actually said to me, "why don't you do a course? It is right up your street, it is so you." After hearing my friends tell me that I would be good at it and having their support, made me think, why not? Let's do this."

Dance as a part of life

Rebecca told us that her dance experience started when she was young and grew with her throughout the years, she said: "I started dancing when I was four years old at my local dance school. I did Tap, Modern and Jazz. Then after a few years, I joined a second dance school, where I then did Disco, Street and Rock and Roll.

"Throughout school and college I took dance as one of my options and learnt a lot of Contemporary, alongside the other genres of dance. I did many shows, competitions and exams, as I grew up.

"My family always used to say to me, "we don't know where you get your dancing from, because no one in the family can dance." As I got older, I went and worked abroad with TUI, as a kids rep and family life entertainer, in Spain and Greece and it was the best thing I ever did.

"I would perform on the stage, encouraging people to get up and dance, making their holiday one to remember.

"I just loved the buzz of being up on the stage, with people watching and following me, having a great time."

Clubbercise is coming to Hadleigh

Rebecca is starting Clubbercise classes in Hadleigh and in Whatfield: "Anyone can do Clubbercise as long as they are over the age of 16.

"My classes will be taking place on Tuesdays at the Baptist Church in Hadleigh and Thursdays at Whatfield Village Hall. Starting from November the 2nd.

"In my Hadleigh class on a Tuesday there is 20 positions available and on my Thursday classes in Whatfield there are 25 positions."

Rebecca continued: "At the moment Covid isn't impacting my classes, however I do recommend if anyone has symptoms to not attend the classes.

"I have also made sure that the halls that I have booked and the numbers in them are capped for each hall, this means that people will have adequate space around them."
