A councillor at the centre of making controversial comments about shooting people is among two Hadleigh Together members that have resigned from the beleaguered town council.

Richard Hinton and Lisa Gordon have both stood down from Hadleigh town council leaving two vacancies that could lead to an election, which will be held before the end of this year.

A Hadleigh council spokeswoman said: "I can confirm that Lisa Gordon and Richard Hinton have resigned.

"Lisa Gordon has cited health and personal reasons, Richard Hinton has cited personal reasons."

Hinton, a solicitor by trade, has quit just days after his conduct was brought up during public questions session at the full council meeting in the town hall last Thursday.

Former councillor Angela Wiltshire brought up the incident when Hinton and then council colleague Bayliss discussed shooting Babergh and fellow Hadleigh councillors.

Both were found to have breached the councillors Code of Conduct.

Ms Wiltshire asked the mayor Frank Minns: "Unlike Cllr Knock who was required to apologise in public and has done so twice now, these two councillors were asked only to 'consider' apologising to their colleagues for joking about quitting, pretending to have technical difficulties in order to leave a council meeting, calling the concerns of their colleagues 'bickering' and saying that they should be shot.

"Chair do you know what your two Hadleigh Together colleagues (one of whom is the Party's leader) have considered and decided to do about their breaches of the code of conduct?"

Lisa Gordon has never been involved in any alleged wrongdoing and has always acted appropriately since being elected as a Hadleigh Together member on the town council in 2019.

Lisa had perviously stood, unsuccessfully, for the Green Party in county council elections.

Meanwhile a vacancy has also arisen at Kersey parish council after a councillor resigned their position.

A request for an election to fill the vacancies in Hadleigh and Kersey can made in writing to the Babergh returning officer by 10 electors.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 15 December, 2021, if not a co-option process can take place.
