A Twitter post showing Hadleigh MP James Cartlidge canoeing on the polluted river Stour has gone viral.
Cartlidge, who has been the South Suffolk MP since 2015, was among 265 Conservative MPs that voted last October to allow sewage be pumped into rivers and seas around the country.
The post highlighting Cartlidge voting to allow sewage into Suffolk rivers, including the rivers, Brett, Stour and Orwell, has been retweeted almost 5,000 times and liked by 5,400 people with more than 500 comments made.
Cartlidge, along with 265 MPs that voted down an amendment to stop private water companies from dumping raw sewage into the UK's rivers and coastlines, damaging health of humans, tourism and the environment.
The Lords Amendment 45 to the Environment Bill would have placed a legal duty on water companies in England and Wales "to make improvements to their sewerage systems and demonstrate progressive reductions in the harm caused by discharges of untreated sewage.'
However, the Tories used their large majority to defeat the amendment.
