Did you know?

An ordinary American mum called Rosa Parks sparked a boycott on Montgomery, Alabama busses by refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on this day in 1955, which in turn led to a federal court ruling that bus segregation is unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The United States Congress dubbed her 'the first lady of civil rights' and 'the mother of the freedom movement'.
