Did you know?

300 years ago to the day, English pirate of the Caribbean, John 'Calico Jack' Rackham was captured by the Royal Navy. He is most remembered for two things: the design of his Jolly Roger flag, a skull with crossed swords, which contributed to the popularisation of the design, and for having two female crew members, Mary Read, thought to have been born in Suffolk, and his lover Irishwoman Anne Bonny.

Weather:

Early drizzle clearing north-eastwards, then dry with large sunny spells developing. Slightly cloudier in the afternoon, with perhaps the odd shower in western parts. Remaining breezy. Maximum Temperature 18c, low of 13c.

Orwell Bridge:

Open

Quote of the day:

"In honest work, the food is bad, the wages are low and the work is hard. In piracy, there is plenty of loot, it's fun and easy and we are free and powerful. Who, when presented with this choice, would not choose piracy? The worst that can happen is you can be hanged. No, a merry life and a short one shall be my motto."

Black Bart

Joke of the day:

Why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet?

Because they can spend years at C.
