On This Day

In 2015 was the death (aged 106) of Sir Nicholas George Winton MBE. He was a British humanitarian who organised the rescue of 669 children, most of them Jewish, from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during the nine months before war broke out in 1939. The operation was later known as the Czech Kindertransport.
