On This Day: In 1897, Aneurin Bevan was born. Often known as Nye Bevan, the Labour Party politician was the Minister for Health in the post-war Attlee government who spearheaded the establishment of the National Health Service, to provide medical care free at point-of-need to all Britons from cradle to grave.

Sunday Reflection

2020 will be a year to be remembered just as years of war are remembered on this day. In war countries may declare themselves to be "neutral" for political, economic or social reasons. During this pandemic countries can try to ignore the virus but have found that the virus does not respect borders and just goes where it will. Nations may also choose to deny the existence of the virus and hide the impact it inflicts on the population. In our Bible reading St Paul highlights the 'misinformation', a term we hear so much of in these days, being spread about Christ. Paul calls for unity in Christ, through Christ, and with Christ, and it is that same message we need to hear today to be unified in dealing with the challenges this world faces.

Andrew Coulson

Sunday Quote

The astonishing fact is that Bevan's vision has stood both the test of time and the test of change unimaginable in his day. At the centre of his vision was a National Health Service, and sixty years on his NHS – by surviving, growing and adapting to technological and demographic change – remains at the centre of the life of our nation as a uniquely British creation, and still a uniquely powerful engine of social justice.

Gordon Brown

Joke of the day

One minute, you're getting drunk as a skunk, then the next minute, you're in the back of an ambulance.

I really shouldn't be working for the NHS.
