A stroke victim from the Hadleigh area has expressed her thanks after cycling charity Spokes for Strokes completed their ride and smashed their target.

The ride in September raised £14,000 in aid of The Stroke Unit at Ipswich Hospital and NHS Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at Caroline House in Norwich.

When Liane Stone suffered a major stroke in October 2019, she received lifesaving treatment and care in both units.

Liane, her family and friends wanted to raise £10,000 in recognition of the care she received and Spokes for Strokes was born.

"For me the last two years have been quite challenging," said Liane. "I walked into work on the 17th October 2019 and arrived back home on the 7th August 2020.

"The staff at Ipswich Hospital, Caroline House and Icanho Centre in Stowmarket made my recovery easier to deal with due to their kindness and understanding, we had some sad times but there were also many fun times, I will never forget them.

On the day 60 cyclist took part, some completed a round trip of 110 miles between Ipswich and Norwich and others completed 55 miles between Norwich and Ipswich.

There was also an army of 35 helpers traveling between both locations to ensure the welfare and safety of the riders.

Liane and all the team members involved with Spokes for Strokes wish to thank everyone who has supported them, sent messages of the encouragement and congratulations.

Liane said: "It has been uplifting for all of us knowing these units will now have additional funds to enhance their services and facilities to optimise patient care.

"We are pleased to announce we have smashed the target and currently the total raised has reached £14,000."

You can still support Spokes for Strokes via their JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/liane-Stone-1 which is open until 15th October .
