Saturday's Hadleigh Breakfast Briefing

By Derek Davis

12th Dec 2020 | Local News

ON THIS DAY: In 1955 Christopher Cockerell patented his prototype of the hovercraft. He had tested his theories using a hair-dryer and tin cans and found his work to have potential, but the idea took some years to develop, and he was forced to sell personal possessions in order to finance his research. Hovertravel is the only scheduled passenger hovercraft service in Europe and it operates between Southsea, Portsmouth and Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

Dull, murky with mist and patchy fog, and outbreaks of rain this morning. This afternoon dry but rather cloudy conditions will gradually spread east, although rain may linger across Norfolk and Suffolk. Maximum Temperature 8c, low of 2c.

Orwell Bridge:

Open for now but check updates with Road closures.

Quote of the day:

I do have a bit of a garden, and I'd love a hovercraft to get around it - one of the big four-seater ones with the fan on the back.

John Cleese

Joke of the day:

Why did the boss give the hovercraft a promotion?

Because she works tirelessly.
