An East Anglian farmer thwarted a major smuggling operation after ramming a plane with his truck, which had landed at a disused airfield, then tried to escape when the pilot saw him, on this day in 1971.Ray Convine, acted after police had warned they suspected the strip was being used. Four Indians and a Pakistani were found on the plane. The mastermind of the smuggling operation died in France before he could stand trial.
