Prudent Hadleigh town councillors have rejected a proposed price of around £2.3million to build a new sports pavilion.

Members of the Layham Road sports ground sub-committee told full council last Thursday that the latest design put forward by architects (pictured) would be way out of their price range.

Councillor Rolf Beggerow told councillors: "We are looking to build a sport pavilion, not a palace."

The sub committee has asked for new designs, and much lower estimates, to be brought back for consideration.

Hadleigh council is looking to replace a former changing room area, which was burnt out in June 2019.

The group has received a £129,800 insurance pay out following the suspected arson attack, and are also looking for grants from various funding organisations including Babergh, the Football Foundation and National Lottery.
