Probe launched after man dies in Hadleigh factory accident

An investigation has been launched after a man died following a fall from a roof at his work in Hadleigh.

Paul Davies is understood to have fallen from the roof of Hadleigh Castings Ltd on Pond Hall Road in the town while carrying out repairs.

Emergency services were called and Mr Davies was taken to hospital by ambulance, but later died.

Hadleigh Castings LTD has spoken of the sadness of his loss and passed its sympathies to the Davies family.

 A spokesperson for Hadleigh Castings Ltd, said: "It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Paul Davies of Hadleigh Suffolk who died following a tragic accident at our site on Wednesday 22 February 2023. 

"Paul had been at Addenbrookes hospital since the incident but despite receiving excellent specialist care, passed away in the late afternoon of the 9 March 2023. 

"He was known to many locally and this devastating news will come as a shock to many. 

"Paul will be remembered by all for his infectious smile and laughter and our thoughts are with Paul's partner, family, friends and colleagues at this time and to whom we send our condolences.

"We ask that you respect the privacy of those who knew Paul and allow us to deal with our grief at this tragic time. Whilst our investigations and those of the Health and Safety Executive are ongoing, there will be no further authorised comment from any individual or the company ." 

Suffolk police and the HSE confirmed they are liaising on the tragic incident.

A HSE spokesperson said: "We have been leading the investigation into the circumstances of an incident that took place at Hadleigh Castings Ltd on Pond Hall Road in Hadleigh.

"We will now be liaising with Suffolk Police in relation to the incident as the man who was seriously injured at the time sadly died on 9 March.  

 "Our thoughts remain with the family at this very sad time."

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman added: "We are working with the HSE to establish the circumstances of the death and the coroner has been informed."
