Police have appealed for witnesses to a collision between a motorbike and a van in Hadleigh last night.

Officers were called at 5.09pm last night, Wednesday 24 August, to reports of a head on collision between a red Volkswagen Caddy van and a black Suzuki motorcycle in Pond Hall Road.

The Ambulance service attended the scene and a road closure was put in place between the junction with Clay Hill, Hintlesham and Clay Lane. The road has since reopened just after midnight this morning (25 August).

The motorcyclist has sustained potentially life-changing injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment. The driver of the van has sustained minor injuries.

A 57-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with excess drugs and careless driving. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision and are also appealing for anyone who was driving along Pond Hall Road in Hadleigh yesterday evening - in either direction - just prior to the incident and who has a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for anything that may be of assistance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Police Headquarters in Martlesham, quoting reference: 54699/22.
