A popular café and wine bar in Hadleigh is set for a new lease of life after being taken over by two local businesswomen.

Cobblers in High Street has been bought by Marie Barker of Bake My Day by Marie and Sarah Smy of Sarah's Coffee Shop, who both "fell in love" with the vibe of the venue on previous visits.

The pair plan to extend opening hours until 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays while transforming the courtyard into a year-round spot to enjoy fine wines and freshly-made cocktails. 

Sarah said: "Having watched it from the start of its journey, I always loved the look and feel of Cobblers. I followed the refurb by the previous owners and think it has a really lovely vibe.

"Hadleigh is a lovely town, everyone is so friendly and it's a quaint high street that we're proud to now be a part of.

"We want to keep providing all the great things Cobblers prides itself on – the nice light lunches and a variety of quality dishes."

Plans for the courtyard include installing new patio heaters that will allow the space to be used throughout the winter months, while blankets will also be available.

The pair also plan to make both the ground and first floors available for private hire. 

Sarah added: "What we really want to do now is bring the courtyard back to life. It is perfect for an evening drink, be that a glass of wine or a freshly made cocktail. It is such a nice place to unwind.

"And what a lot of people don't realise is that Cobblers is the perfect place for a private party. 

"You can have a big party downstairs, but you can also exclusively hire the first floor for smaller events such as baby showers, family gatherings or Christmas meet ups."

Marie added: "I am so excited to have achieved my life-long dream of owning my own café. 

"I have always dreamt of having a warm, cosy and welcoming place to enjoy a drink or a nice bite to eat – including both traditional and trendy cakes.

"Sarah and I have been friends for over 10 years now and we make a fab team. I'm really excited for the future." 

Cobblers will continue to serve its popular daytime menu, with the addition of Marie's delicious sweet and savoury bakes.

Sarah added: "Marie's brownies, cakes and sausage rolls are amazing. She's really well known for what she does and we are really excited to bring that to Hadleigh.

"With my passion for coffee and Marie's incredible cakes, this is the start of an exciting future for Cobblers!"
