Town mayor Frank Minns has spoken of his understanding after this year's Hadleigh Show was cancelled.

Organisers of the show which has been held in hadleigh for 181 years have called off this year's event, and although no reason has been given the mayor's can understand the decision.

Cllr Minns said: "Organising a show like this is a gigantic amount of effort, and of course money up front so and if you are not confident that the show would be able to go ahead then all that time, energy and money would be wasted so you have to balance all this against one and other.

"The Suffolk Show which is even more complicated in terms of expenses must have pointed in that direction."

In a statement on its website the organisers said: "It is with regret that the committee of the Hadleigh Farmers Agricultural Association, and the organisers of the Hadleigh Show, have to announce that the 181st Hadleigh Show, due to take place on 15th May 2021, has had to be cancelled.

"We are hugely disappointed that this has had to happen but we are already looking forward once again to bringing the Hadleigh Show to our supporters in 2022."

Hadleigh has now moved from Tier 4 into a national lockdown as Covid cases rise, with Babergh among the worst affect areas in Suffolk.
