An exhibition, concerning Hadleigh's Overlooked Heritage has been hailed a success after a positive reaction by residents.

The Hadleigh Society, in association with the town council, hosted the event at the town hall on Friday and Saturday.

The exhibition displayed many examples of properties and places in Hadleigh which, whilst not nationally Listed, are considered to possess special local architectural and or historical heritage value and ought be included in a Local List of such properties being compiled for the town.

At the exhibition, as well as viewing the exhibits, visitors were invited to make contributions to the proposed Local List, either by nominating properties they consider may merit inclusion, and or providing historical photographs and information to be added to currently selected properties.

Organiser, Richard Fletcher, secretary to Hadleigh Society, said: "We are delighted at the very positive responses received from visitors, many of whom felt that the project was important to the recording and safeguarding of the towns past and that the study be continued."

The next stages, in the compilation of the Local List for Hadleigh, is to complete surveys of the town and undertake further consultations so that the list can be approved as a community resource.

This opportunity for pubic involvement is also now being extended via the Society's' website, to provide an interactive access to the Local List and upon which further nominations of properties and comments from the community can be submitted at Hadleigh Society's Local List page here...
