Latest crime figures for Hadleigh revealed by local Bobby

Crime figures for the Hadleigh area over the past 90 days have been revealed.

Hadleigh safety neighbourhood team police constable Mike Small also spoke of operations being carried out by officers in the wider area.

Speaking at last Thursdays Hadleigh town council meeting, PC Small revealed that there had been 34 thefts from shops in the town. However, he said the figures looked worse than they were, after one person had been arrested for committing 19 thefts from one store and was being dealt with by magistrates.

PC Small also said there had been 28 cases of violence against the person and the majority of those were domestic incidents.

He added that there had been seven burglaries and seven incidents of criminal damage in Hadleigh.

The team had also made 153 referrals to safeguarding units after attending suspected domestic abuse and concerns over mental health issues and safeguarding.

PC Small explained that the SNT was based at Hadleigh police station in Magdalen Street, and dealt with non-emergency cases.These include theft from shops, burglaries, harassment cases, neighbourhood disputes and anti social behaviour.

The police station is not open to public even though it is manned but there is a phone outside so people can contact officers.

The SNT are responsible for neighbourhood priorities which are adjusted on a monthly basis.

He said: "Currently the number one priority is to patrol anti-social behaviour, which is constantly evolving. There have been a number of reports about the

leisure centre area so that is long our high patrol routes." PC Small also spoke about the issues with traffic, speeding, and anti social drivers with loud exhausts and how police had been working with the management at Morrisons car park and looking at preventing vehicles going on there. He also reported issues at the Babergh owned Magdalen Road car park and said police were monitoring that. In terms of speeding, three street safety cameras had been set up. He said: "In Angel Street a national survey showed it did not meet criteria for a high level of checks and so will not be attending there. "In Oxford Drive were are waiting for more data. "Friars Road did meet the criteria and will be followed up." PC Small has spoken with people who have had problems in Benton Street and said: "We have engaged with residents along there and have had a mixed response. Some noticed improvement while there are still some concerns about vehicles mounting pavement, in particular large vehicles." PC Small explained that Hadleigh came under the southern policing area which also includes a number of village parishes and towns Ipswich, Felixstowe and Woodbridge. He said: "Emergency response to calls to Hadleigh are dealt with by officers from Landmark House in Ipswich. Units are also sent to patrol Hadleigh. "Unless it is an emergency, people are encouraged to report crimes online. We are also piloting live chats on the website." PC Small went on to reveal that figures covering the period in November 2021, the latest figures available, according to the police control room showed they had received a total 28,000 calls. Of those, 9,000 were emergency calls made to 999, while 19,000 were from the 101 number. Among those calls the Southern Policing Area officers answered 11 fire arms deployments, 516 mental health incidents and 1,197 public safety incidents.
