Hadleigh photograph of the week: Starlings' sky dance

By Derek Davis

16th Jan 2022 | Local News

This wonder of UK nature has been occurring at dusk for several days at the

same location close to the village green and Melford Hall, and was captured by Hadleigh Nub News reader Kathleen Carr on Friday, January 7. It is attracting a considerable number of spectators from a wide area, including ourselves from Hadleigh. An experienced birder estimated the total number in the murmuration as being 3,000. Smaller groups of starlings could be observed flying in from all directions

to join the main flock, and the spectacular aerobatic display continued for

approximately 30 minutes before melting down into the grounds of the

Hall.
