The winning team from Hadleigh Nursing Home is celebrating its success in a regional bake-off competition.

Ashley Staples, head chef at the Kingsley Healthcare home in Friars Road, Hadleigh, was ably assisted by residents including June Ede, Yolande Farthing and Pam Simmons in creating eye-catching and mouth-watering results over three rounds.

Competing against other Kingsley Healthcare homes across Suffolk and Norfolk in The Great Kingsley Bake-Off, the Hadleigh team were crowned overall champion by the judges.

In successive weeks, the homes had to produce sausage rolls, a pavlova and a Victoria sponge.

As well as winning the overall title, and a prize of £100 for the residents' activities fund, Hadleigh was also the first-round winner, receiving a further £50.

Ashley, 28, who made a coffee, chocolate and walnut cake for a residents' coffee morning to celebrate the success, said:"Working as a chef here represents the best of both worlds for me.

"I trained as a chef and worked in a number of pubs and hotels, including Hintlesham Hall, but I also have a passion for care and have worked in a community-based caring role.

"I love to get the residents involved with tasks such as whipping cream."
