As Hadleigh today celebrates Armed Forces day, the mayor, Frank Minns is still hoping his Royal Navy tunic is returned to a shop that he lent it too.
Former Royal Navy Commander Minns allowed the Thrift Shop to use one of his tunics for their window display to mark the beginning of Armed Forces week last weekend.
Staff already had an army sergeant's jacket and an RAF tunic, but needed something from the Royal Navy and contacted Frank Minns.
Unfortunately, over-zealous shop staff sold the jacket bearing the two and a half rings of a Lieutenant Commander for a tenner first thing on Monday morning.
The staff did not get details of the customer and a social media appeal for the jacket's return has so far failed.
Mayor Minns admitted he was miffed when he found out the jacket had been sold but accepted it was a genuine error.
He added: "I know it is a bit sentimental but I would love to get the jacket back as it represents a certain time for me in the Royal Navy."
If you were the buyer of the jacket it can be returned to the Thrift Shop where a full refund will be given.
Meanwhile, shoppers are encouraged to visit Hadleigh High Street today as part of the town's Armed Forces celebrations.
Visitors to the window trail will be in with a chance of winning a £50 gift voucher for Hadleigh Fork Kitchen & Deli, simply by using the hashtag #SaluteOurForces, and tagging Babergh District Council in a box outside one of the displays.
