An increased rate of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Hadleigh last week has seen a huge increase in the rate of infection in Babergh.

The latest figures up to Saturday, November 14 (pictured) shows the district currently has the highest coronavirus rate in the East of England with a weekly rate of 183.62 per 100,000, up from 101 on November 10.

There were 184 weekly cases reported in Babergh, while East Suffolk saw 224 cases reported.

Most of those confirmed cases in Babergh were from two Hadleigh care homes and the High School and Suffolk's director for Public Health England, Stuart Keeble, warned everyone had to continue to take the disease seriously.

Hadleigh was the first area in south Suffolk to be placed in a special hyper-local alert status, with Ipswich also given an increased warning after a jump in the borough's Covid statistics.

Babergh now has a total of 841 cases, and remains relatively low in the national rankings at 279 from 315.

It appears the Hadleigh community have taken notice with the town centre noticeably quiet over the weekend, while many messages of support were left at the Magdalen House care home, where 45 confirmed cases were reported.
