Hadleigh allotment owner delight after council finally remove asbestos
A Bridge Street allotment owner has expressed her delight and gratitude after asbestos was finally removed from her plot.
Jade Saunders spent months trying to get the asbestos boards taken away from her allotment after discovering the toxic sheets while clearing away the scrub.
Hadleigh town council staff initially denied that safely removing the dangerous boards from their land was their responsibility, however after an intervention from the allotment committee's Jenny Hone and councillor Angela Wiltshire who took expert advice, the council backtracked and organised the removal of the asbestos.
The asbestos was removed earlier this week and Jade was delighted the issue has now been resolved.
"I'm really happy to have the full use of the allotment from now on.," said Jade. "It is great that the council has decided to take on this responsibility.
"Angela and Jenny absolutely took this on for me and were super helpful."
Cllr Wiltshire said: "I am so pleased to hear that we could help Jade get on with enjoying her allotment, and at the same time, protect the environment, our staff and the public from the risks of hazardous asbestos."
