Update:

The new owners of the Hadleigh Ram have released a statement regrading them taking over, days after Hadleigh Nub News broke the story.

Nub News revealed Rob and Faye Wicks were to be the new tenants and they have now confirmed they have a five-year plan for when they move in.

Mr Wicks added: "The idea was to try to replicate Cobblers this year in another town, but The Ram came up for lease, and we've been talking to them since late 2021.

"It's been a challenging couple of years for everyone in hospitality, but we've been really well supported by the local Hadleigh community, both at the wine bar and next door at the waffle house.

"We've had some really nice comments, and the time felt right to do something new.

"There's definitely space in the market here for something like this.

"We'll be offering excellent quality beers, wines and spirits, and our plan is to create cocktails similar to what you might find at The Alchemist bars – with smoke, and bubbles and theatre."

The oldest pub in Hadleigh is set to be taken over by new tenants, it has been confirmed. The Ram, in Market Place in Hadleigh has been closed since May last year, after former tenants Stock and Bailey, decided against reopening following lockdown last summer, two years after taking over the lease from Stuart Inns. Pub owners Greene King appealed for new tenant to come forward and are today finalising details with the new landlord and landlady, while pub undergoes a renovation. A Greene King spokesperson told Nub News: "We're looking forward to reopening The Ram and hope this can happen later this year. "We understand its importance to Hadleigh and have spent some time looking for the right partner to take over the running of the pub, which we have now done. "We hope to announce more details in due course." Although nothing has been completed as yet, Faye and Rob Wicks, who own Cobblers Wine Bar and Cafe, are hot favourites to take over as the new tenants. The Ram is believed to be the oldest pub in Hadleigh, and reputed to have been in continuous use since 1625. However, it was recorded as being a building from at least as early as about 1563. It is anticipated the new operators would need a £18,000 buy in for deposit, stock and expenses, with the rent currently set at £43,000 per year, although the forecasted operator turnover is £346,181 and a profit of £40,972.
