Babergh councillors joined directors from Babergh Growth and project leaders from Gipping Construction to review progress of the development of new homes at Corks Lane, Hadleigh.

The site, which is located at the former council offices, will see a regeneration of original buildings to preserve and enhance the original structure, ensuring the character and features of the existing building are retained through sympathetic conversion.

The site is in a key location in Hadleigh, close to shops, schools, and the town's amenities and will offer 49 new homes.

Work onsite started in the summer and progress on site to date has included clearing the site, formatting car park area, demolition of non-listed buildings (where necessary) and commencement of retaining wall structures.

The next steps will be installing drainage and associated ground works, completion of the retaining walls and boundary treatment alongside Hadleigh Cricket Club and car park installation. Early in the new year work will begin on the development on the new build properties.

It is expected that the new homes will be available early summer 2024.

Cllr David Busby, Babergh's cabinet member for Finance, Assets, and Investments, said:"The regeneration of this land to create almost 50 homes is an important development for Hadleigh. With its location close to the town's shops leisure facilities and schools, these new homes support our vision for creating and place that people are proud to call home."

The Corks Lane development is part of Babergh's ongoing investment in the town, including more than 20 affordable homes at Angel Court that were completed in 2021.
