Pubs and restaurants in Hadleigh and surrounding areas will be forced to close from 10pm on Thursday, despite coronavirus rates in the district falling.
Michael Gove told BBC Breakfast this morning that there was evidence the 10pm closing time had a beneficial effect in the areas where the restriction has already been tried.
But in the week to September 18, Suffolk reported 40 cases compared to 77 in the previous week, according to the latest figures released by Suffolk's CoronaWatch.
This meant the infection rate for Suffolk dropped further from 10.11 per 100,000 last week to just 5.25 in this week. In terms of local authorities, all districts in Suffolk showed a drop in the number of cases per 100,000 compared to the previous week. The most notable drops in cases were in Ipswich and West Suffolk.
An interactive map shows cases in Hadleigh and immediate surrounding villages were in the lost bracket (between 0-2).
