Call for Ukraine donations from Hadleigh area
A Suffolk freight company has sprung to action to provide aid to the victims of the Ukraine crisis and has called on donations of essential items from groups and individuals in the Hadleigh area.
Anchor Freight has dedicated part of its warehouse facility in Ipswich to act as a hub for donations, to be sent to the Polish-Ukrainian border.
They've appealed for essential items and are calling on international hauliers to support them in delivering aid to the country.
Hannah Keegan, Deep Sea and Customs Assistant Manager at Anchor Freight, said: "The situation in Ukraine is absolutely devastating, things like this shouldn't happen anywhere in the world.
"We all want to do our bit and offer support in any way we can. So, we're asking for donations of essential items such as sleeping bags, first aid kits, toiletries and more, to support those displaced by the conflict."
Their first donation day took place on 6th March, which saw around 100 cars full of donations ready for delivery to Ukraine.
More than 500 bags of clothing, almost 100 bags of toiletries and a further 100 boxes of blankets and more have been sent so far.
Carl Day, CEO of Anchor Freight, added: "Thank you to everyone who has donated to our appeal, we've been blown away by the support.
"It's at times like these where the good and kindness of people must prevail. We stand with Ukraine and hope every donation will provide much needed support at this difficult time."
Anchor Freight is also being supported by construction firm, SEH French, and Jackson Civil Engineering, who are also part of One Group Construction.
The two companies, who share an office with Anchor Freight, have helped load up lorries and made donations themselves.
Simon Girling, Director of SEH French, said: "Our hearts go out to all those affected by this terrible situation. When Anchor Freight announced their donation appeal, we immediately offered our support.
"The response from the public has been fantastic but we're not done yet. If you can, please donate any essential items on the next donation day."
