Brothers excited to open new Premier store on Hadleigh High Street
While some might say Tesco has finally arrived in Hadleigh, well sort of, the owners of the Premier corner shop, are ready to take on the town's other big boys - the East of England Co-op and Morrisons.
Premier stores are a subsidiary of Tesco, which was refused panning permission to build a store in the town some years ago, with mixed reaction back then.
However, Mihiran Thuriariaah co-owner of the Premier which has opened in the old TSB building on the corner of Market Place and the High Street, told Nub News he is confident they will soon carve out a new niche as a popular grocer in the town.
"It has been exiting opening here in Hadleigh, said Mihiran. "There has been good interest already on the first day,
"Exciting for us, the customers and the town."
Premier runs through Mihiran family as they already own stores in Sudbury and Manningtree.
He said: "We are family store with Premier and were looking for a premises in Hadleigh. This was to let and we felt it was a good place."
It took the family three months from taking on the least o completely refitting the ground floor area in to a purprose built store with fridges, shelves and tills in a town centre location.
Mihiran believes location and prices will be a winner for customers.
He said: "It is better for the customers to walk too than Morrisons, or the Co-op, or any other grocer shop.
"We have everything here and offer a wide variety.
"Our prices are very compete, and quite often we are cheaper than the others. We have a lot of Mega Deals and we can offer big chocolate bars for example for £1.25, you won't get that anywhere else.
"Premier have a lot of deals, like the sandwich deals and we do those for the customers.
"It is the same with wines, our are very good deals."
He also believes their customer service will add to the attraction judging on his own experience while checking out the opposition.
"I found when I went to the Co-op for example it was either self service or you had to wait for a long time when there was only one lady actually serving," said Mihiran.
"For people who are in a rush, they don't want to wait five or 10 minutes to be served, so here we will be quicker."
Premier's outside signage going up by end of this month, but already has its good luck charm, a melon hanging outside.
The shop is open from early morning to late evening, with times to be confirmed.
