A mum whose daughter was injured by broken glass at a Haleigh play park has called for more to be done to deter vandals in the town.
Jessica Fyfield's four year old child Evelyn was injured while playing in the park at Corks's Lane by some broken pieces of glass, which resulted in bleeding from a cut in her foot.
Mrs Fyfield said: "As a mother you don't think you have to double check a play park for hidden dangers in the grass.
"While dealing with the blood I had to inform two other parents that the park was dangerous.
"The broken pieces of glass look as if they were smashed and left at the park deliberately. They were found hidden in the grass and on the slide."
Mayor Frank Minns was appalled at the incident and while town council resources are restricted he vowed to ensure more will be done to prevent a repeat.
"It is shocking that people can be so selfish and indifferent to the safety of others that they would do such a thing, above all in a children's play area," said Mayor Minns. "The town council does not unfortunately have the resources to check its public areas every day for hazards like this, and we rely on the public spiritedness of the people of Hadleigh not to create such dangers, and in more serious cases, to report them to the council office.
"The Tidy Town team also do great work helping with this. Outside space is more precious to people than ever this year, and we should all be striving to keep it safe and accessible for everyone.
"Even small amounts of litter detract from the amenity of our public spaces and, given how well we are supplied with litter bins, there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of thoughtless and inconsiderate behaviour.
"I know that unfortunately there are people who will pay no heed to the kind of thing I am saying here, and in order to reassure parents in particular, we will see if we can make our checks on these areas more frequent."
Mrs Fyfield added: "My daughter was injured due to someone smashing glass in the grass and on the small slide.
"Another mum picked some of the glass up but there so much in the grass that it's still dangerous.
"There should be a camera to monitor the play areas at the Corks Lane Park and at the swimming baths one as well.
"It is disturbing but yesterday was heartbreaking because it felt as if I had let my children down by not checking the grass for glass.
"This should not be something parents have to worry about, and this is of serious concern for young children's safety."
More CCTV is being installed in various areas in the town through a collaboration with Babergh district, Suffolk police and Hadleigh's town council.
