None of the four vacant properties at Hadleigh's Angel Court will be used refugees fleeing war torn Ukraine, it has been confirmed.

Councillor Mick Fraser was asked at Hadleigh town council about the situation for putting refugees into Babergh's former council offices at Corks Lane, and the new houses built at Angel Court.

He told councillors the Corks Lane building was not suitable and would not be used, but did not know about what was happening with Angel Court.

However, Babergh have confirmed none of the houses would be used for refugees, even the four that are being marketed by estate agents.

A Babergh spokesperson said: "All the Angel Court properties that are part of our 'general needs' housing stock were allocated last year.

"The remaining units are being marketed for shared ownerships and applications have now been received for them all."

During a motion at Babergh full council last Tuesday leader John Ward condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and vowed the council would do everything it can to supply housing and other support for refugees.

However, central government has still failed to supply specific details on what form that support will take and there have been complaints by sponsors that too little is being done to facilitate refugees and the process is far too slow.

Babergh has yet to identify properties it has available to refugees and Suffolk county council has yet to receive full guidance on what the £10,500 allocated to it for each refugee, can be used for.

A Babergh spokesperson added: "Councillors were united in condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine and we will play our part, not only in relation to housing but also in terms of the extra work involved across the system in making the resettlement scheme a success and ensuring refugees have the support they need."
