'Not good enough' Holder's Hadleigh rue missed chances
Hadleigh boss Steve Holder knows what went wrong, but fixing it is quite another matter after his side threw away a first half lead to capitulate and lost 4-1 to Mulbarton Wanderers, in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.
The Brettsiders were left rueing squandered opportunities and being too leaky at the back.
"It was all abut missed chances again, said Holder. "We got off to a good start with the goal, and could have had another two or three but didn't take those chances.
"We conceded after just a few minutes in the second half and then instead of taking our chance to go 2-1 up we miss and they go down the other end and score. It is those missed chances that are costing us because we are creating chances.
"Then, when we concede, we just seemed to fold and ended up conceding four. They have had four or five shots and scored four. We have had more shots but not scored it is just not good enough."
This loss, and the midweek defeat at Thetford, is afar cry from the tight defensive display that marked the beginning of the campaign.
Holder said: "We have gone from not conceding at the start of the season to know folding after we concede like we did in pre-season.
"The boys know it is not good enough. General play is ok but teams are finding it too easy once we concede."
Hadleigh went ahead a minute before the break when defender Ryan Taylor's clever goal kick outwitted the Wanderers defence and found Mason Ransome on the left wing.
Ransome put the right back on toast with some neat twists and turns before finishing with aplomb.
Had he, along with Sam Sharp and Joe Yaxley, been as decisive with other chances they would never have been beaten by a scoreline that was harsh but of their own doing.
Holder added: "Mason does strike the ball well but he needs to do that more often. He needs to take more shots and chances."
The Brettsiders were undone by a combination of missed chances, indecisive defending and mistakes as Wanderers gave them a lesson in finishing.
Sam Whiting from a corner a minute after the break levelled for the Norfolk visitors, with Jamie Smith, Danny Beaumont and Timmy Henery then making Hadleigh pay for their profligacy.
Once again Holder was missing players but refused to use that as an excuse for the failure.
"We are missing Joel Glover, and other players through injury, covid isolation and weddings but that is not an excuse.
""Sharpy is doing well up there he just has to be more clinical."
With no midweek game this week, Holder is hoping his side can get back on track with a mouth-watering FA Vase trip to Redbridge on Saturday, after meeting Walthamstow on penalties to reach this stage.
"We will use this week to reset for the Vase," said Holder. "Hopefully we can get another win down there and do it for the fans."
