Hadleigh councillors resume meeting to discuss legal letter and employment issues

Hadleigh town councillors will tonight meet to discuss issues which were not dealt with after their last full council meeting was controversially halted.

Councillors were debating what should or should not be discussed as confidential items when a row erupted between the then mayor Frank Minns and councillor Andrew Knock.

Mr Minns suspended the meeting for five minutes but when it resumed he put forward a motion to exclude Cllr Knock but was not able to get a seconder and called the meeting to a close.

Hadleigh Together nominating officer Mr Minns subsequently resigned as mayor and in his role as town councillor.

Tonight's meeting has been called as a 'continuation' meeting and councillors will be asked to agree to obtain more information and review the process regarding a solicitor's letter that was sent to a member of the public demanding she apologise for the criticism she levelled at the town council manager over the Christmas trees project.

They will then vote to exclude the press and public so they can decide on how the legal proceedings should move forward.

They will also be discussing staffing matters, which would be in addition to the thousands to be spent on additional human resources support.

Tonight's meeting starts at 7.00pm at Hadleigh's town hall, in Market Place.
