Charity banner back up in Hadleigh as councillor Dawson slammed for lack of response

A banner promoting a foodbank charity in Hadleigh has been put back up in the high street.

The sign giving details of the Fresh Star charity shop, the Hadleigh Food Bikes, and the Hadleigh Foodbank Chart was taken down, along with a banner promoting Hadleigh's Friday Market, by Babergh on the orders of portfolio holder Sian Dawson.

Foodbank chair Angela Gregg complained and asked for her banner to be put back up, which it was but was again taken down and was told by Babergh's public realm team, that Cllr Dawson wanted them removed as they were unsightly.

However, Babergh agreed the banners could go back up again if they complied with the rules and part of their statement read: "Assuming the banners are still in date and the relevant permissions are in place they can be re-installed without any problems."

Full story here.

"It clearly states and I assume it's correct, the banners are allowed to go back so we have done just that." said Mrs Gregg.

"What is still very disappointing is that I have still not had any comment or apology from Babergh councillor Sian Dawson who has caused this debacle."

A sign promoting Hadleigh Market remains in the car park and it is anticipated the banner will soon be put back on the railing to advertise the Friday morning event.

Cllr Dawson has been approached for comment but not responded.
